The Northern Climbers

Catbells 25th February

Diary 25/02/2013

After a tough long day the day before I wanted to take the family on a fun route with nice views. As they had not climbed before I chose Catbells as it is a nice easy and popular route. The day was perfect, not a breath of wind and you would have thought it was a summer’s day. Catbells is an easy challenge for any seasoned walker, it takes you on to Maidenmore and High Spy. The Skelgil bank is steep and warms the legs. Across the Skelgil ridge you get the first view of Catbells which looks surprisingly steep. It is a slight scramble up to the summit but nothing a few 10 year old can’t handle as we saw. The views on a clear day are amazing, back to Derwent water, Keswick, Skiddaw and Blencathra to the North. More adventurous walkers can make a full day of this route round High Spy to Dale Head and Hinscarth.
