Skiddaw 24th August

The Northern Climbers

Diary 24/08/2013

A little bit of time since the last posting. This was after a very bad ankle sprain and lots of physio, hard work and training i took back to the hills at about 75%. Skiddaw dominates the sky north of Keswick. It is the 4th highest in England and looks it from the main street in Keswick. I have always wanted to get Skiddaw ticked off the list and i knew it was tough but had a well pathed route. I wanted to ease back into the walking before doing more serious scrambling again. The car park was packed as expected and very low cloud line was down to around 500 meters. As the walk took us past the Hawell memorial there was a fell running event on form Carlisle to Skiddaw and back, 43 miles wow. Skiddaw is at a good 45 degree angle to the summit for most of the way, is is challenging and great work out. We reached the summit and it was very clagged in. We didn’t get the best views, but on the decent down toward Long Edge the clouds lifted and sun came out. We came down Carlside to Milbeck. A very good long trudge and great workout to get back into the swing of things. Moral of this story don’t jump over tent poles and don’t wear your Timberlands to climb a mountain....... Emma
